Industry Advocacy
How GFASTI engages on legislation, licensing, safety, and consumer protection.
Our role
GFASTI represents the interests of tree care professionals in discussions about how Georgia approaches the industry. Our focus areas are:
- Industry legislation affecting tree care businesses and workers
- Professional licensing for tree care companies
- Workplace safety standards and training
- Consumer protection for property owners
- Industry standards that raise the baseline for the profession
- Collaboration with policymakers and other stakeholders
Public record
In 2024, the Georgia House created a Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry through House Resolution 473. Press coverage reports that GFASTI president Tierson Boutte testified to the committee, and that in December 2024 the committee recommended introducing licensing and regulatory legislation based on a draft proposed by GFASTI.
A study committee recommendation is not a law. Readers should consult the Georgia General Assembly for the current status of any legislation.
Not everyone in the industry agrees on regulation. Some tree care professionals have voiced concerns about its scope and impact, and those views are part of the public debate.
